Trooper Gary Lane and K9 Hemi
Washington State Patrol
Narcotics Detection Team

Hemi was plucked from the mean streets of New Orleans by a police officer during the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Unclaimed and considered too rowdy for adoption by those who evaluated him, he ended up spending nine months in a kennel in a Louisiana prison! There he became a favorite with the inmates who cared for him. Thanks to Desiree Bender, Donna Reynolds and funding from the HSUS, Hemi was shipped to Washington State to the LawDogs program. He and his handler certified on July 28th, 2006 and are now working the streets in Western Washington.
